Account Snapshot & ICP 2.0

Saab AB is the Swedish defence group behind the Gripen fighter and the A26 submarine. Saab is listed in Stockholm, and Investor AB, the Wallenberg holding company, controls 40 per cent of the votes. Group sales reached SEK 79.1 billion in 2025 against a backlog of SEK 274.5 billion. The listed parent, Saab AB itself, employs 13,092 of the group's 26,507 full-time staff and houses Group IT, Group Digitalisation and Common Tech, where FP would sell. Saab also owns Combitech, one of Sweden's largest technology consultancies, which sold SEK 4,977 million in 2025, about a third of it to Saab. Any outside supplier therefore competes with Saab's own consulting arm for the work Saab chooses to buy.

Strategic Hypothesis

MODERATE confidence
Saab set four focus areas at its Capital Markets Day in May 2025 and calls its digital transformation software-driven, data-centric and built on AI. Saab is rebuilding Group IT around its own hires, and the four heads who will decide what it buys from outside are still being recruited in October 2026. Applications for all four close on 23 October, and no posting names a start date. About twenty platform and data roles are open beside them, every one of them in Sweden. On 1 October Saab moved IT operations under its Chief Digital Officer, six months after Niklas Granevik became Group CIO. Saab staff researched devops 37 times in ninety days, three times any other topic, and Saab's postings ask for Kubernetes, the container platform, and infrastructure as code, so the reading and the hiring agree. Databricks drew eleven readings and appears in no Saab posting. The eleven dora readings most likely mean the DORA metrics, four standard measures of software-delivery speed and stability, because they arrived beside devops, Kubernetes and infrastructure as code (inferred). Saab builds that capacity as employees: the one outside company running part of the estate is Cleura, a Swedish cloud provider, which has operated Saab's private cloud since 2023. Until 2026 Saab put no IT leader on a public stage, and the first appearances are booked for November and December. No offering is claimed while those four seats are empty, and after Swedish notice periods of three to six months the new heads are unlikely to start before early 2027 (inferred).
Intent
Saab staff researched devops 37 times in ninety days, three times any other term; dora and Databricks drew 11 each and Kubernetes 9. The devops reading agrees with the hiring, and dora most likely means the DORA delivery metrics (inferred). Databricks appears in no Saab posting.
Hiring
Four Group IT heads reporting to the Group CIO are being recruited, with applications for all four closing on 23 October 2026, plus about twenty platform and data roles, all in Sweden and none abroad. A FinOps engineer, OpenStack architects and a Kubernetes platform engineer are among them.
Strategic
Capital Markets Day 2025 set four focus areas and about 18 per cent organic growth a year to 2027. IT operations moved under the Chief Digital Officer on 1 October 2026. The Orka submarine order of June 2026 brings maintenance work to Polish industry, with no IT element named.
Technology
Cleura has operated Saab's private cloud since 2023, the one outside operator on record. Group IT names cloud, AI and modernisation as its agenda, and Common Tech runs the Kubernetes platform in house.
Stakeholder Cross-Reference

Adelsberg has held IT operations since 1 October and Granevik still leads Group IT, so the salesperson connects with Adelsberg first and treats Granevik as the person who will staff whatever Adelsberg decides. Granevik's new team is still being hired, so the first contact is a question about sourcing with nothing offered. Cleura already operates the private cloud and Common Tech runs the Kubernetes platform, so the salesperson does not pitch infrastructure capacity. Anders Arpteg alone has a published view from this year. He is the one to engage in substance before November.

Observed Intent & Behaviour

Saab staff researched devops 37 times in ninety days, and no consultancy in the reading reaches three mentions. Saab's [Kubernetes platform posting](https://www.saab.com/career/job-opportunities/devops-engineer

Role & remit
Adelsberg has led Group Digitalisation, the group function Saab created for him in April 2024, and he sits on Group Management. Saab announced on 10 September that he takes on responsibility for Saab's IT operations from 1 October 2026. He came from Traton, the truck group, where he ran group R&D for electronics, software and autonomous driving, after leading connected and autonomous vehicles at Scania. A vehicle-software executive now runs a defence group's IT.
Priorities
Adelsberg is two weeks into running IT operations beside digitalisation, while Group IT recruits new heads for operations and support and for enterprise platforms. Applications for both close on 23 October, and neither posting names a start date. Saab set up Group Digitalisation as a new group function in 2024, so joining it with IT operations is the second change to how Saab organises digital work in two years. Which of those heads report to him, and through whom, is inferred from the release and the postings, so the reporting line is the first thing to confirm. In his Tech Royale podcast episode he says defence is now about software, AI, cybersecurity and digital leadership, and he draws on what the car industry learned when software took over its products.
Pain points
Adelsberg now answers for running an estate whose transformation Group IT started, from the ERP and product-data systems to a private cloud that Cleura operates. The four Group IT heads who will run that estate are unlikely to be in post before early 2027 (inferred). Adelsberg sets the operating model while those seats are empty.
Why this stakeholder
I picked this stakeholder because Saab's release of 10 September 2026 put IT operations under him from 1 October, so the digital agenda and the running of IT now meet on one desk.
Likely interested in
No offering is claimed. Saab builds and runs its enterprise IT with its own Group IT and Common Tech teams, and the one outside operator on record is Cleura. A Group IT announcement that names a partner for operations or support would open a conversation with Adelsberg.
Hook
Read the Group Management announcement of 10 September 2026. Saab's own release names him as the executive taking over IT operations, so the widened remit is the opening. Also: listen to his Tech Royale podcast episode, 2026, hosted by HiQ, a Swedish IT consultancy, in which he argues that defence is now built on software, AI and digital leadership.
Channel

Message (EN)
Hi Mikael, congratulations again on bringing Saab's IT operations into Group Digitalisation on 1 October. The new heads for operations and enterprise platforms are still being hired. The next few months decide which work your own teams keep and which a partner runs. Future Processing takes over one clearly scoped part of an estate, and the core team keeps everything it owns. Is that sourcing question on your desk this autumn, or is it Group IT's call?

P2 - the four new heads report to him
Niklas Granevik - Group CIO, Head of Group IT
Sweden
Open profile ▾
Contact
LinkedIn · niklas.granevik@saabgroup.com (unverified) · Confidence: MODERATE · Readiness: verify · Prior: none
Role & remit
Granevik became Group CIO and head of Group IT in April 2026, after serving as deputy CIO and head of the CIO Office and earlier as CIO of the Dynamics business area in Karlskoga. Saab's open postings for a Head of IT Operations & Support and a Head of Core Enterprise Platforms & Applications both report directly to the Group CIO.
Priorities
Granevik is building his own leadership team: four Group IT head roles are open, and applications for all four close on 23 October 2026. Those postings describe a transformation agenda of cloud, AI and modernisation, and Saab has published no programme name for it. The other two seats, a Head of Modern Infrastructure with FinOps in the remit and a Head of IT Security & Compliance Operations, complete a leadership team in which every head is new.
Pain points
Six months into the role, Granevik saw IT operations move to the Chief Digital Officer on 1 October, while the heads who would run operations and enterprise platforms under him are still being hired. Whether Granevik now reports to Adelsberg is inferred from the release and is stated nowhere. The operations posting gives the new head "staffing, tools, and vendor services", so the person who manages suppliers will sit one level below him. The one Group IT unit that says in public it works with external suppliers is application management in Karlskoga and Karlstad, where Granevik was CIO of the Dynamics business area (inferred link).
Why this stakeholder
I picked this stakeholder because both open head roles report to him, and the Core Enterprise Platforms posting puts data, AI, core business applications and platform modernisation in that one team.
Likely interested in
No offering is claimed. Group IT is staffing its transformation with permanent hires, and the IT Operations & Support posting lists vendor services as something to manage without naming a vendor.
Hook
None confirmed. His own LinkedIn post of May 2026 announces the Group CIO role, and its wording has to be read on LinkedIn before anyone quotes it.

• Open his May 2026 LinkedIn post on taking the Group CIO role and confirm its wording before anyone quotes it.
• Since 1 October, does the Group CIO report to Mikael Adelsberg, or does IT operations run beside Group IT?
• Which of the four open head roles stay with him, and who decides on vendor services for IT operations?
Connection note

Message (EN)
Hi Niklas, congratulations on taking over Group IT at Saab in April. Your team is recruiting four heads at once, for operations, infrastructure, security and enterprise platforms, while the modernisation agenda keeps running. Future Processing adds a delivery team for named workstreams, so planned work does not have to wait until every seat is filled. Is extra delivery capacity during the hiring period something you are weighing this winter, or will Group IT staff it alone?

76 words. The opening rests on his new role, not on his May post, so it can go now; do not quote the post until someone has read it.
P3 - will run the portfolio office
Johan Sporre Lennberg - Deputy CIO and Head of the CIO Office (from mid-November 2026)
Sweden
Open profile ▾
Contact
LinkedIn · no address on file · Confidence: MODERATE · Readiness: verify · Prior: none
Role & remit
Sporre Lennberg joins Saab in mid-November 2026 as deputy CIO and head of the CIO Office, which he says covers enterprise architecture, the portfolio management office and governance. He leaves Ericsson after nearly ten years; his last role there was vice president for cloud services.
Priorities
Sporre Lennberg's first quarter will go on setting up the portfolio office and the architecture function, which decide what IT work Saab does and in what order (inferred from the remit he named himself).
Pain points
Sporre Lennberg arrives six weeks after IT operations moved to the Chief Digital Officer, and the four new Group IT heads will most likely still be serving notice with their current employers (inferred). The portfolio he governs starts without settled owners in November. He brings a cloud-services background into an estate with two cloud models, a private cloud that Cleura operates and public-cloud teams on AWS and Azure, so cloud spend and ownership are likely early portfolio questions (inferred).
Why this stakeholder
I picked this stakeholder because his own September 2026 post puts the portfolio management office under him, and that office sets the order of Saab's IT work (inferred). He also arrives months before the new heads, so the portfolio office sets its first priorities without them.
Likely interested in
No offering is claimed. He has not started, and the portfolio he will govern has no published programme yet.
Hook
Read his post announcing the move, September 2026, in which he writes that he joins Saab as deputy CIO and head of the CIO Office in mid-November. The start has not happened, so any contact refers to the move and never to his plans.
Channel

Check before sending
Confirm these before the message goes out:
• Has he started at Saab? Check his profile after 16 November before any contact.
• Does the CIO Office report to Granevik, and does the portfolio office cover IT operations now under Adelsberg?
• Two LinkedIn addresses carry his name; confirm which one he uses before connecting.

Message (EN)
Hi Johan, congratulations on joining Saab as Deputy CIO and head of the CIO Office in mid-November. You arrive while Group IT is hiring four new heads, so the portfolio office will decide early which work the teams do themselves. Future Processing fixes the scope of each portfolio item before any work starts, so the portfolio office keeps control of what gets done first. Would it be useful to compare notes once you have settled in at Saab?

P4 - the one IT leader on record
Anders Arpteg - VP AI & Data, Common Tech
Sweden
Open profile ▾
Contact
LinkedIn · anders.arpteg@saabgroup.com (unverified) · Confidence: HIGH · Readiness: hold · Prior: none
Role & remit
Arpteg has led AI & Data since November 2025 inside Common Tech. In a Hyperight interview in February 2026 he described the job as scaling AI value in customer products, in business processes and for Saab's own people. Before Saab he worked at Peltarion, the Swedish AI platform company, Spotify and GlobalConnect. Saab put him in front of investors at the Redeye AI theme day on 18 March 2026, so AI is part of how Saab explains itself to shareholders.
Priorities
Arpteg is staffing his AI and data platform: Saab is hiring a Service Manager AI & Data and a Senior Data & AI Platform Engineer, and the platform role belongs to the Surveillance business area. AI & Data works inside Common Tech beside Product Tech, which builds shared AI, cloud, edge and CI/CD components for Saab's product teams. A platform that serves more than one business area is the likely reading (inferred from the postings).
Pain points
In the same interview Arpteg called the obstacle a prototype graveyard: AI pilots that never reach production because nobody planned for production from day one. He has to scale AI across products and internal processes at once, and Saab added a head of AI governance only in August 2026. His podcast moved the same way: episode 189 on 1 October covered AI-assisted battlefield intelligence, the direction Saab's products are taking.
Why this stakeholder
I picked this stakeholder because he named the prototype graveyard as the obstacle in February 2026 and co-hosts a weekly AI podcast, so a first conversation can start from words he has already said.
Likely interested in
No offering is claimed. Common Tech builds Saab's AI and data platforms with its own teams, so Arpteg's interest lies in how other companies move pilots into production, and an AI programme he chose to staff from outside would change that. His podcast and advisory seats are media roles and sell nothing, so no FP proposal competes with them.
Hook
Read his Hyperight interview of 26 February 2026, in which he explains in his own words how AI gets past the prototype graveyard. Also: listen to AIAW Podcast episode 189, 1 October 2026, which he co-hosts; see the NDSML Summit advisory board, on which he sits for the Stockholm summit of 10-11 November.

Hi Anders, in your Hyperight interview in February you said few companies plan AI for production from day one. Anders Malmqvist - Head of Infrastructure Operations & Platforms
Sweden
Open profile ▾
Contact
LinkedIn · anders.malmqvist@saabgroup.com (unverified) · Confidence: LOW · Readiness: verify · Prior: none
Role & remit
Malmqvist became head of infrastructure operations and platforms in September 2026, based in Gothenburg. From 2022 he managed a security operations centre at CGI, the IT services group, so he has run an outsourced service from the supplier's side (inferred from the role).
Priorities
Malmqvist's team runs the infrastructure that Group IT is modernising: Saab advertises for OpenStack architects for its private cloud and a Kubernetes platform engineer in Common Tech. Saab has not said whether his team or the new Head of Modern Infrastructure will own that platform. His title joins operations and platforms, and the private cloud beside it is the one part of the estate Saab already pays an outside firm to run.
Pain points
Malmqvist started in the month Saab began recruiting a Head of Modern Infrastructure whose remit covers cloud operations, platform engineering, FinOps and legacy infrastructure. His scope depends on a hire made above or beside him.
Why this stakeholder
I picked this stakeholder because Saab staff researched devops 37 times in ninety days, and the Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code work Saab advertises runs on the infrastructure he took over in September 2026 (inferred).
Likely interested in
No offering is claimed. Saab runs its infrastructure with its own teams, and Cleura operates the private cloud. A partner named for platform work after the new Head of Modern Infrastructure starts would open a conversation with Malmqvist.
Hook
None confirmed. The only post under his name is a 2022 job change, older than twelve months.
Channel

Check before sending
Confirm these before the message goes out:

• Does his team run the OpenStack private cloud with Cleura, or the public-cloud landing zones on Azure and AWS?
• Who in Group IT owns the Kubernetes platform: Common Tech or infrastructure operations?
• Does his team, Product Tech or nobody track the DORA metrics, such as deployment frequency and lead time for changes?
Connection note
Hi Anders, congratulations on taking over infrastructure operations and platforms at Saab in September. I work with teams running Kubernetes and private-cloud estates. Happy to connect?

185 characters. The first touch.
Message (EN)
Hi Anders, congratulations on the infrastructure operations and platforms role in September. Saab is building out Kubernetes and the OpenStack private cloud while it recruits a Head of Modern Infrastructure. Until that seat is filled, daily operations and platform change fall to the same people. Supporting material behind the hypothesis and the stakeholder profiles. Skim it before a call; the argument itself is in Sections 0-3, and the places to meet these people are in Section 4.

Strategy

Saab targets about 18 per cent organic growth a year to 2027. In Poland, Saab won the Orka order for three A26 submarines on 29 June 2026, worth about SEK 47 billion, and committed to build maintenance capability there with Polish industry. Saab Technologies Poland, the Warsaw subsidiary, is registered for market research, so it sells and does not deliver.

Cloud and infrastructure

Saab's private cloud runs on OpenStack, open-source software for private clouds with an in-house architecture team. Beside it Saab runs an Azure landing zone for core IT services, and a Cloud Enablement team across AWS and Azure is adding FinOps, the practice of managing cloud cost.

Technology and technical debt

Saab's enterprise systems include IFS for ERP and aircraft maintenance, Unit4, Workday and ServiceNow, plus three product lifecycle management suites: Teamcenter, Windchill and 3DEXPERIENCE. Saab is hiring a Teamcenter architect to make Teamcenter, ERP, design and manufacturing systems work together and to migrate their data.

Finances and growth

Operating income reached SEK 8,066 million in 2025. The average workforce rose from 23,375 to 26,507 full-time equivalents in one year, so Group IT serves about 3,100 more people than in 2024.

Risks

Saab's IT postings cite ISO 27000, NIST and CMMC, the US defence cybersecurity standard, and require security vetting. A supplier inside the estate should expect vetting for its people too (inferred). Saab is recruiting a Head of IT Security & Compliance Operations.

Initiatives

Combitech opened Saab Engineering India in Hyderabad in April 2025 with 150 product engineers.
