Saab AB: two offerings to test

Annex to the stakeholder report of 19 October 2026 · Verdict: MONITOR, unchanged · Hypotheses to verify, not offers to pitch

Saab runs Group IT with its own people, and no FP offering has a buying signal strong enough to pitch today. Support & Maintenance and Rapid Delivery Milestone come closest, and each holds only if Saab confirms a few facts. Combitech, Saab's own consultancy, opens a third way in.

What both hypotheses rest on

Hypothesis 1 Support & Maintenance

Saab hands one run-side workload to a partner while Group IT is restaffed

    Why it could fit

    What does not fit yet

    • The offer needs rising incidents or a team held on maintenance, and Saab has stated neither.
    • The devops signals concern platforms, while the offer supports business applications.
    • Saab runs IFS, Teamcenter and Windchill, and FP's support record on them is unestablished.
    • Supplier staff will need security vetting (inferred).

    To verify, and with whom

    • Anders Malmqvist, and the new Head of IT Operations & Support once in post: which systems do outside suppliers run today?
    • Does maintenance keep the team from new work?
    • Does anyone track restore time and change failure rate?

    First move

The offer's cold entry, a Support Health Check.

    Hypothesis 2 Rapid Delivery Milestone

A team that measures its delivery already has the baseline this offer needs

      Why it could fit

      • DORA metrics give a measured baseline, and the offer promises speed only against the client's own baseline.
      • Product Tech builds shared CI/CD components for Saab's product teams.
      • Anders Arpteg said in a Hyperight interview in February 2026 that few companies plan AI for production from day one. The offer exists for pilots stalled before production, but he named no Saab pilot.

      What does not fit yet

      • No named increment, deadline or board pressure is public.
      • Defence stacks are specialised, and the offer works best on mainstream ones.
      • Repository and environment access will sit behind vetting (inferred).

      To verify, and with whom

      • Arpteg: which AI pilot is closest to production, and what stops it?
      • Product Tech, which Magnus Larsson heads by his own profile: which delivery metrics does the team track, and where is lead time longest?

      First move

A qualification call with FP's delivery owner for the offer, before anything is proposed.

A third way in The Combitech route

Combitech is Saab's own consultancy, and in FP's view a partner for delivery practice before it is a buyer of either offer

      Facts

      • Saab owns Combitech outright. Combitech employs about 2,600 experts in Sweden, Finland and India and sold SEK 4,977 million in 2025, about SEK 1.7 billion of it to Saab (Annual Report 2025).
      • It sells digitalisation, cyber security, system integration and AI, and it opened an engineering centre in Hyderabad in April 2025.
      • Senadin Alisic of Combitech speaks at the NDSML Summit in Stockholm on 10-11 November, where Arpteg sits on the advisory board.

      FP's view (opinion)

      • With Combitech, FP does not need to run either offer at its designed scale. FP can show that it knows the practice: a two-to-three-week DevOps practices assessment of one delivery team, measured on the DORA metrics, or a training session on quality gates and AI-assisted delivery. FP has no packaged DevOps course, so the session would be built for Combitech.
      • The two offers become the reason to believe. FP has packaged run-side service and production-grade increments as fixed-scope offers, so a consultancy can inspect the method before it trusts it.

      Risks

      • Combitech also competes for the work Saab buys from outside.
      • An assessment or a training session opens a door and is no support contract: the support offer does not count education-only buying as a sale.
      • FP's AI-assisted delivery tooling is its own IP, so a training session shows the method and does not hand over the tools.
      • Combitech has named no outside delivery partner on its client work.

      To verify

Who owns delivery practice at Combitech, and does Combitech subcontract? Alisic at NDSML on 10 November is the first person to ask.
